Training jet of air force crashes in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, June 26 (Xinhua) -- A training aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force has reportedly crashed in the country's northwest city of Peshawar on Tuesday, local media reported.

However, there are no reports about the loss of any life in the accident.

According to the reports, the trainer fighter jet crashed when the pilot was attempting for an emergency landing after the plane encountered some technical fault.

Airport Control Tower allowed the pilot to land at the runway of the Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar, but the plane crashed before it could reach the runway, the reports said.

An eyewitness said that the aircraft faced some problems soon after it took off from the nearby airbase.

The jet caught fire after it crashed in the premises of the Bacha Khan International Airport.

A huge smoke rising from the airport premises could be seen.

Rescue teams and security personnel rushed to the site and put off the fire.

The authorities have closed the airport, suspended flights operations and diverted all coming flights to the airport in the country's capital Islamabad, the reports said.
