YANGON, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar President U Win Myint on Tuesday called on the people to make joint efforts with the government in combating the danger of narcotic drugs which could ruin the youths of the country and the human society as a whole.

Speaking at the ceremony marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Nay Pyi Taw, U Win Myint stressed the importance to raise the momentum of fighting against drug as a national duty, saying that if failing to combat drug, the country could reach an un-imaginable status over the next decade.

He urged for exposing the main producers of drugs and taking action on responsible officials who, for instance, pretend not to know about the illegal drug trade cases.

He also called for strict handling of drug seizure by increasing authoritative power to them in combating drugs.

At the ceremony held under the motto "Listen First," counter narcotics agencies rewarded 107 winners out of 3,500 public and student competitors for anti-drug writing, painting and photographing contest to mark the international anti-drug day.
