HO CHI MINH CITY, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The consumer price index (CPI) of Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City in June rose 0.55 percent against May and 3.47 percent against last June, the municipal Statistics Office said Friday.
In June, among 11 groups of products and services used to calculate CPI, eight saw price hikes, with the highest month-on-month increase of 0.95 percent in transport charges.
Other groups of goods and services recording high price hikes included housing, electricity, running water, fuels and construction materials, up 0.72 percent; restaurant and catering service, up 0.84 percent; education, up 0.3 percent; culture, entertainment and tourism, up 0.11 percent; drinks and cigarettes, up 0.04 percent; medicines and healthcare service, up 0.03 percent; and garments, hats and footwear, up 0.01 percent.
In June, prices of home appliances dropped 0.03 percent against May, and charges of posts and telecommunications services declined 0.06 percent, said the office.
Meanwhile, CPI of Vietnam in June surged 0.61 percent against May, the highest rise in June in the last seven years, according to the country's General Statistics Office.
In 2017, Vietnam's CPI advanced 3.53 percent against 2016, far below the 4-percent target set by the country.
