JAKARTA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The cumulative number of foreign holiday makers visiting Indonesia by May ratchet up 11.89 percent to 6.17 million people from a year ago, the national statistics bureau announced here on Monday.
On months, the arrivals also expanded 4.55 percent to 1.2 million people in May, head of the bureau Kecuk Suhariyanto disclosed.
The hike in of the figure in May was largely driven by the enlargement of the schedules of direct flights overseas, Suhariyanto said.
Looking ahead to the months of July, August and September, the official projects there will be steep hikes in the number of foreign visitor arrivals as the country will host the 2018 Asian Games.
China, followed by Malaysia, Timor Leste, Australia and Singapore is the biggest source of foreign tourist arrivals in May, Suhariyanto noted.
