DAR ES SALAAM, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) on Monday urged the government to make efforts towards regulatory reforms aimed at improving business environment.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, TPSF members urged the government to come up with a plan of action that will guide the private sector towards the implementation of a recently launched blueprint for regulatory reforms.
The blueprint launched recently by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa addresses general and cross-cutting regulations relating to business registration, licensing, contract enforcement, standards and labor, and taxes and fees.
Godfrey Simbeye, the TPSF Executive Director, told the breakfast meeting that the intended results of the blueprint could only be realized if there was disciplined and coordinated implementation by all stakeholders.
He said TPSF called upon the government to translate the blueprint into a prioritized implementation plan, including vigorous monitoring, reporting and accountability mechanisms that will include the private sector.
"TPSF shall engage the private sector through their various associations to work with respective government authorities responsible for implementation of the blueprint," said Simbeye.
He said effective implementation of the blueprint will undoubtedly lead to improvement in the competitiveness and attractiveness of Tanzania to domestic and international investors, faster job creation and poverty reduction, which were crucial to President John Magufuli government's ambition to fast track industrialization.
Donath Olomi of Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development (IMED) said effective implementation of the blueprint will avoid duplication of regulations, processes and taxes.
