NEW DELHI, July 14 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people, mostly students, went missing Saturday in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh when the boat they were travelling in capsized, local government sources said.
The tragedy occurred in the state's East Godavari district, when the ill-fated passenger boat hit a pillar of an under-construction bridge in the Gautami river and toppled.
The boat was travelling from Talarivaripalem to Pashuvulanka areas in the district, with a total of 40 people aboard when the tragedy occurred.
According to the sources, initially all the 40 people were in water, but fortunately as many as 30 could be safely rescued. Rescue work was still underway for those missing.
The students were reportedly returning home after attending their classes.
