SINGAPORE, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 0.85 percent or 27.56 points to close at 3232.79.
A total of 1.73 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 889.9 million Singapore dollars (about 653.39 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 237 to 159.
The STI index closed up 0.23 percent or 7.34 points to close at 3260.35 last Friday.
