2 people arrested for illegally crossing Myanmar-Bangladesh border

YANGON, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Two men from Maungtaw township, Myanmar's western Rakhine state, have been arrested for attempting to illegally cross over the Myanmar-Bangladesh border fence, Myanmar News Agency reported Wednesday.

The two men, identified as from Paung Zar village in the township, crossed the Naaf River and climbed over Myanmar-Bangladesh border fence near Paung Zar Chaung Wa police post on Monday.

Ignoring the police's verbal warning, the two continued to climb over the border fence forcing the police to fire a shot, hitting one of the two and both of them were caught.

Investigation is underway into their attempted border crossing.

Meanwhile, border guard forces of the two countries have been conducting coordinated patrol along their respective sides of the border along the Naaf River since the beginning of July.
