CHICAGO, July 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. automaker Ford announced on Wednesday that it will recall about 550,000 vehicles to replace shifter cable bushings, as it could cause the vehicles to roll away unexpectedly.
The safety recall involves some 2013-2016 Ford Fusion sedan and certain 2013-2014 Ford Escape SUV sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
"The problem stems from the transmission. A bushing responsible for holding the shifter cable in the transmission might detach. If that happens, the transmission might be in a different gear than what the driver may think it's in." said Ford in a statement.
The company added that it has received no notifications of accidents or injuries related to this problem.
Ford announced that its dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing at no cost to the customer. The automaker is advising owners to use the parking brake.
