MOGADISHU, July 21 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and three others were injured in a car bombing in the Somali capital of Mogadishu early Saturday, police said.

The blast occurred at a place near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Mogadishu when an improvised explosive device which was planted under a vehicle with civilians went off.

"One person was killed and three others -- a man and two women -- were injured. The injured have been rushed to the hospital," a police officer who declined to be named told Xinhua by phone.

He said investigations have been launched to establish the motive behind the latest attack which comes amid tight security in the restive capital.

No group has claimed reasonability for the latest attack but the extremist al-Shabab military group often launches attacks on government, military and civilian targets.

The blast came a week after the Somali militant group al-Shabab rammed a suicide car into the checkpoint near the presidential palace, killing two people and wounding several others.
