YANGON, July 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 27 people have gone missing in a massive landslide in Hpakant jade mining region in Myanmar's Kachin state, a local police told Xinhua Wednesday.

The landslide occurred due to the collapse of a 91.4-meter high pit wall of an unused jade mining site owned by Ayeyar Yadanar Company in Seik Mu village in the township early morning on Tuesday.

Search and rescue operations have been suspended for safety purpose as more landslides are likely to occur in the area, according to the Information Ministry.

A similar massive landslide occurred in San-Khar village and Lone-Khin village in the region on July 14 killing at least 10 jade scavengers with 43 others injured.
