GENEVA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Nat Indrapana, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has died at the age of 80, the IOC said Monday.

"With the death of Nat Indrapana, the IOC loses a true gentleman of sport," IOC president Thomas Bach said.

"With his outstanding gentleness he made many friends around the world, including me. Over the years of his membership, Nat contributed greatly to the Olympic Movement and the protection of its values."

Indrapana, deputy secretary general of the Thai Olympic Committee, became an IOC member in 1990 and was on the coordination commitee for Olympic Games in 2000, 2008 and 2016.

Indrapana, who was due to retire from the IOC this year, is the second serving member to die in 2018 following Poland's Irena Szewinska.
