DHAKA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Three more people succumbed to critical injuries, raising the death toll of Monday night's deadly road accident to 11 in Narsingdi district, some 51 km east of Bangladesh capital Dhaka, an official said Tuesday.
Officer-in-Charge of Belabo Police Station in the district Javed Mahmud told reporters that the road accident took place at 8:30 p.m. local time Monday night when a Dhaka-bound bus collided with a three-wheeler, leaving eight people dead on the spot and 11 others critically injured.
"Three persons injured in the crash died in a hospital today," he said.
Bangladesh has one of the highest fatality rates for road accidents in the world mainly due to shoddy highways, poorly maintained vehicles, violation of traffic rules and lack of monitoring of the traffic department.
