BEIRUT, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Lebanese disciplinary chief blasted on Wednesday public employees for their widespread corruption, a local media outlet reported.
"Services offered by public departments are very bad and most of the public employees are corrupt," Marwan Abboud, head of the Supreme Disciplinary Board, was quoted by Lebanon Debate, a local news agency as saying in a televised interview.
He accused the "corrupt" government employees of "doing their jobs in return for bribes" or "getting paid without fulfilling their duties and responsibilities."
"These employees must be fired," Abboud said.
The Lebanese official hinted at the great chaos and congestion at Beirut's airport last week, after a software error resulted in the delay of flights and longer hours of waiting.
The manager and the director general of the civil aviation authority at Beirut's airport are currently under investigation.
Earlier in the day, a Lebanese anti-corruption official demanded to suspend the two airport leaders for failing to fulfill their responsibilities and duties.
According to GAN, a business anti-corruption portal, the public services sector in Lebanon carries a high corruption risk for businesses.
"Bribes and irregular payments are often exchanged when applying for public utilities in Lebanon," it said.
