ULAN BATOR, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- A minister in Mongolia announced his resignation Wednesday due to a scandal involving financial irregularities.
"I resign from my position voluntarily without problem. I have already submitted a resignation letter," Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Minister Batjargal Batzorig told reporters.
The resignation was demanded by the ruling Mongolian People's Party Group in the parliament.
Just a few days ago, reports were made public that some parliament members and their relatives obtained loans with low interest rates from a fund which is aimed at developing small and medium-sized enterprises.
The fund is an affiliate of Batzorig's ministry. Batzorig's wife is allegedly among those who obtained loans from the fund.
