SARAJEVO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH's) police have arrested 12 persons on Thursday over smuggling of arms, people and goods, said BiH Prosecutors Office in a statement on Thursday.
On the order of BiH's Prosecutors Office, members of BiH's Border Police (GPBiH), Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska (MUPRS), in cooperation with Institutions of Serbia, deprived of liberty 12 persons in city of Brcko, located 200 kilometres north of the capital Sarajevo and in Bijeljina, located 190 northwest.
The targets of the raid codenamed "Scorpio" were persons suspected of acting as an organized criminal group, for a longer period of time, dealing with the smuggling of weapons and military equipment to countries of the European Union (EU), trafficking in human beings and the smuggling of goods of greater value from Serbia to BiH.
Among the arrested persons is M.B., a member of GPBiH, who is suspected of having committed the criminal offense of Organized Crime in conjunction with the criminal offense of Illicit Trafficking in Military Equipment and Dual Purpose Products. In addition, he is suspected of misuse of position and corruption, the statement added.
During the raid on 10 locations, a considerable amount of weapons, military equipment and smuggled goods have been found.
