BEIRUT, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- A Lebanese official said on Wednesday that Lebanon will submit an urgent complaint to the United Nations Security Council against Israel over violating its airspace.

Lebanese caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport Youssef Fenianos was quoted by the National News Agency as saying that two civilian planes avoided a catastrophe from Israeli warplanes which violated Lebanon's airspace to launch raids on Syria's Damascus.

"Passengers in the two civil planes were saved from a humanitarian disaster on Tuesday," said Fenianos.

The decision to submit a complaint came after Fenianos' call with Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri on this matter.

The National News Agency reported that suspected Israeli missiles were launched over Lebanese territories at targets inside Syria Tuesday night.

Lebanese caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said earlier that Israel has violated Lebanon's airspace, land and sea more than 1,500 times in the past eight months.

It prompted Lebanese President Michel Aoun to call on the UN to pressure Israel to stop violating Lebanon's airspace.
