ABU DHABI, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) aim to jointly boost sustainable development in the world, said Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative Yang Jiechi on Monday.
Yang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the 2019 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, extending Xi's congratulations to the annual event.
Citing Xi's remarks that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," Yang stressed that sustainable development for a green planet weighs a lot in the future of human beings, a huge plan that needs collaboration and joint efforts.
"China adheres to the principle of maintaining harmony between human and nature, and has chosen the path of sustainable development," Yang said. "Low-carbon and green development is crucial in China's economic transition, global cooperation and responsibility for building a community with shared future for mankind."
"As friendly partners in promoting the Belt and Road Initiative which also sees sustainable development a core value, China and the Arab world, also with other countries, shall join hands to build a clean and beautiful world," Yang added.
Yang, together with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi, honored innovation pioneers with the Zayed Sustainability Prize named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, late founding father of the UAE.
A total of 10 winners were awarded this year for their contribution to the sustainable development in food, health, water and education.
Established in 2008, the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is a global event in the sector of renewable energy and related technologies, held every year in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi.
