BANGKOK, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Pheu Thai (for Thais) Party has resolved to name a trio of candidates for Thailand's prime minister following the March 24 election.
In a press conference at the party's headquarters, Pheu Thai secretary general Phumtham Vechayachai confirmed on Thursday that the party's executive board has decided to name the trio as candidates for post-election prime minister, namely Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, Chadchart Sittipunt and Chaikasem Nitisiri.
Nevertheless, Phumtham commented that those Pheu Thai candidates for prime minister will not necessarily be chosen in pecking order as long as the election law is concerned.
Khunying Sudarat is a former member of several previous cabinets and currently heads the party's committee for electoral strategies. Chadchart is a former transport minister while Chaikasem is a former justice minister.
Meanwhile, Phumtham disclosed that Pheu Thai Party will send 250 candidates running in individual constituency mode and 98 others contesting in party-list mode.
The three Pheu Thai candidates for prime minister will be among the party list, he said.
A total of 500 MPs will be elected on March 24, including 350 MPs in individual constituency mode and 150 MPs in party-list mode.
