MOSCOW, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Two pedestrians were killed and three injured in a car accident on a main street in the Russian city of St. Petersburg on Sunday, Russia media reported.
According to preliminary information, the accident occurred at 55 Nevsky Prospect when a car dashed into the sidewalk and hit a number of pedestrians, Interfax news agency reported.
A U.S. citizen and a Moscow resident died in the accident, it said.
Three victims of the accident were hospitalized, including a woman in serious condition and two men in a state of moderate severity, St. Petersburg's vice-governor Anna Mityanina said on Twitter.
Preliminary data showed that the driver, who was driving a BMW X6, was born in 1989.
