ISLAMABAD, March 3 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and dozens of others injured when torrential rains and snowfall brought life to a standstill in parts of Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province, local reports said on Sunday.
Most of the victims including women and kids were either electrocuted or got killed or injured after being trapped inside the rubbles of collapsed houses in the province.
The rainwater caused flash floods in water drainages passing through the cities and the villages, washing away houses and shops in their way.
The rains also inundated several roads and railway tracks, disrupting road and rail traffic.
Many people had to stay in open after their houses were collapsed by rain or flash floods, while the authorities also issued flood warning in several districts of the province.
Chief Minister of Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan directed to convert state-owned buildings into shelter houses to accommodate the people affected by the flood. He also contacted the chairman of national highway authority to clear the road on an emergency basis for restoring traffic.
The provincial government also directed residents of rain and snow-hit areas to move to the shelter houses if they face inconvenience in their homes.
Meanwhile, the country's weather office Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasted that rain and snowfall will continue in the province till Monday.
