ANKARA, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Ministry on Monday condemned the tram shooting that killed at least three people in the Netherlands city of Utrecht.

The ministry "strongly condemned the attack in the Netherlands, regardless of the identity of the perpetrator and the motivation behind it," it said in a statement.

The Turkish ministry expressed condolences to the families of the casualties, adding that Turkey was in "full solidarity" with the Dutch people and the government.

According to Dutch media, suspected shooter Gokmen Tanis allegedly opened fire on tram passengers at October 24 Square, killing three and injuring five others.

The 37-year-old man was born in Turkey and was arrested by local police on Monday night.

Earlier on Monday, the ministry separately said that Turkish and Dutch officials would meet on Tuesday in Ankara to discuss "bilateral relations" and cooperation.
