UNITED NATIONS, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations said Tuesday that his country would continue to strike Gaza unless attacks on Israel from Gaza were to stop.
Israel on Monday launched strikes on Hamas targets in Gaza after a rocket from Gaza struck a home in central Israel earlier Monday that wounded seven people.
The injured include a grandmother, a baby and two children, Danny Danon, the Israeli ambassador, told reporters.
"Make no mistake. We will not accept a reality in which our children become targets of Hamas. We are determined to protect our people. If these terror attacks continue, the leaders of Hamas will feel the might of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and will be buried in the tunnels of Gaza," said Danon.
The ambassador displayed a photo of the house that was hit by the rocket on Monday. He said the house in the community of Mishmeret, north of Tel Aviv, is just a few hundred feet away from his own home.
Asked whether the Israeli military action in Gaza would continue, Danon said: "We are ready for all scenarios. We targeted Hamas sites and we will continue to do so."
The ambassador said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has returned to Israel from the United States and was meeting with military leaders. Netanyahu cut short his Washington trip after Monday's rocket attack.
