China wins silver and bronze at Judo Hohhot Grand Prix

HOHHOT, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese judokas won a silver and a bronze medal on the first day of the International Judo Federation (IJF) Hohhot Grand Prix here on Friday.

Chinese 27-year-old judoka Xiong Yao won silver medal in the women's 48kg category. It was China's first medal in the three-day competition.

The winner of this category was Jon Yusun from DPR Korea, while the bronze medals went to Katharina Menz from Germany and Shira Rishony from Israel.

In the women's 52kg category, Japanese fighter Uta Abe took the victory after overcoming Evelyne Tschopp from Switzerland. The bronze medals were taken by Canadian Ecaterina Guica and Gefen Primo from Israel.

Kim Jina from DPR Korea won the gold medal in the women's 57 kg category, defeating Russian Daria Mezhetskaia in the final. Bronze medals went respectively to Lu Tongjuan from China and to Jessica Klimkait from Canada.

Kim Wonjin from South Korea topped the men's 60kg category. Yang Yungwei from Chinese Taipei grabbed the silver, while two bronze medals went respectively to Albert Oguzov from Russia and Choi Inhyuk from South Korea.

In the men's 66kg category, South Korea's Kim Limhwan won the gold. Russia took the silver thanks to the skills of Aram Grigoryan, while Baskhuu Yondonperenlei from Mongolia and Tsai Mingyen from Chinese Taipei shared the bronze medals.

The grand prix of the International Judo Federation (IJF), runs from May 24 to 26 in Hohhot, serves as an Olympic qualifier and attracts about 301 judokas from 43 countries and regions.
