JAKARTA, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Sixteen E-sport teams from 5 nations will compete in Southeast Asia E-sport final in Indonesia at weekend, sponsor of the sport tournament said on Friday.
The final is scheduled to be held from June 22 to 23 in Tanggerang, a satellite city of Jakarta, said Oliver Ye, marketing director of PUBG Mobile, the sponsor and committee of the sport event.
"It is satisfying for us, PUBG Mobile, to establish this event and have it classified as international level," Oliver said.
Of the 16 teams from five countries, Indonesia and Thailand will each send five to the event, Malaysia three teams, Vietnam two teams and the Philippines a single team.
The Indonesian teams who achieved qualification for the Southeast Asian final in Shanghai, China, are expected to perform well and win, therefore qualifying for the next phase of 2019 Global Final PMOC in Berlin, Germany, said Oliver.
The Indonesian government has struggled to foster E-sport in the country by planning to build communities of the sport, starting from upstream sector to downstream, youth and sport ministry Imam Nahrawi said.
E-sport is a form of competition using video games. They take the form of organized, multiplayer gaming competitions between teams of professional players.
