MUSCAT, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Oman denied diplomatic ties or reopening a commercial representation office in Israel, said an official statement by the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

"What was reported by some media and social media about the establishment of diplomatic relations between Oman and Israel is entirely unfounded," it said.

"Oman is keen to exert all efforts to create favourable diplomatic conditions to restore contacts between all international and regional parties to work towards achieving peace between the Palestinian Authority and the government of Israel, leading to the establishment of an independent State of Palestine," the Omani's statement added.

Last October, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Oman and held talks with Sultan Qaboos in the Omani capital Muscat.

Oman and Israel established trade relations in the 1990s, including the opening of commercial offices, until Oman decided to close them in the wake of the second Palestinian uprising which started in 2000.
