KHARTOUM, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the opposition Freedom and Change Alliance have reached a deal on establishing transitional authorities to jointly govern the country, an African Union (AU) envoy said early Friday.
"The two parties agreed on a sovereignty council by rotation and a civilian government of independent national competence," AU mediator Mohamed Hacen Lebatt told a press conference in Khartoum after the two-day talks.
He said the two sides also agreed to postpone the establishment of a legislative council.
TMC's Deputy Chairman Mohamed Hamdan Daqlu pledged that the deal would be comprehensive and all-inclusive and hoped that it would be satisfactory to all parties.
For his part, Omer Al-Digair, a leading member of the opposition Freedom and Change Alliance, said this agreement paved the way for the formation of a transitional government which would work for political, economic and social reforms in the African country.
Sudan has been plagued by nationwide unrest since former President Omar al-Bashir was ousted by the military in April. The coalition of opposition and protest groups have been in talks with the military over who would run the country.
Under the mediation of AU and Ethiopia, the conflicting parties agreed to sit down to negotiate a solution to the country's political crisis.
