BEIRUT, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Telecom Minister Mohammad Choucair launched on Thursday 5G and public Wi-Fi services for all passengers at Rafic Hariri International Airport, the National News Agency reported.
"Beirut's airport is among the very few airports to offer free 5G and public Wi-Fi internet connections starting today to all its passengers," he said.
"The internet speed at the airport is great now and all passengers can use it while waiting for their flights," he said.
Meanwhile, Public Works Minister Youssef Fenianos said that the airport will in the near future offer more facilities to passengers, including providing services for people with disabilities.
The Lebanese government has implemented lately a project aimed at expanding Beirut's airport to cater to an increasing number of passengers.
According to a study released by the airport in March 2018, as many as 10 million passengers are expected to travel through the Beirut airport by 2020, which has the capacity of hosting only 6 million passengers annually.
In 2018, Lebanese Finance Ministry approved 18 million U.S. dollars in funding the expansion of the airport.
