BEIRUT, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of Lebanese young people demonstrated in downtown Beirut on Sunday to demand change of the governing system and policies, the National News Agency reported.
Protestors asked the government to stop its "corrupted" policies which they said have contributed to increasing poverty and deprived people of their basic rights.
On Friday, Lebanese protesters broke into the parliament for the first time to demand new elections and a complete change of the governing system.
Lebanon's economy has started deteriorating as the deficit in balance of payments increased tremendously in absence of serious government reforms to stop the deficit and curb an alarmingly high public debt.
The government has passed the 2019 budget with little reforms and is planning to approve the 2020 budget which may include further increase in taxes, thus meaning further reduction of purchasing power and deeper poverty.
