PARIS, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Outlining France's priority objectives related to the restoration of lasting stability in Syria, a French government official said on Wednesday that the international military operation to uproot Islamic State (IS) insurgents must continue, while a political solution must be found to ensure security in the region.
"We have three priority objectives in the region. ...First of all, the continued fight against Daesh (IS) terrorism and the preservation of the Global Coalition's achievements," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Agnes von der Muhll said.
Warning that "the risk of Daesh's resurgence in northeastern Syria is real," she stressed that "the fight against (it) must be undertaken within the framework of the coalition, taking into account the latest regional developments."
"Since the only way to resolve the Syrian conflict is through a political solution," France's second objective is the resumption of the process aimed at finding a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis under United Nations (UN) auspices, she said.
Lastly, she said that France's third objective is to protect the civilian populations and prevent a further humanitarian disaster.
