ATHENS, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted Greece's Crete island on Wednesday, according to the Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens.
The institute revised upwards an earlier estimate of 6 given by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.
The tremor's epicenter was located in the sea area between the islands of Crete and Kythira in southern Greece. The quake was felt as far away as Athens some 270 km north.
No injury or major material damage have been reported so far by local authorities.
Efthymios Lekkas, president of Greece's Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization, told local SKAI TV that experts do not link the tremor with the strong earthquake in Albania on Tuesday which left more than 20 dead.
