MINSK, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Natalya Kochanova was elected chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus on Friday.
Kochanova received an overwhelming 59 votes out of a possible 60, cast by the senators who took part in the ballot.
Anatoly Isachenko, former chairman of Minsk Region Executive Committee, became deputy chairman of the Council of the Republic, upper house of the Belarusian parliament.
Prior to her new appointment, Kochanova served as head of the presidential administration.
Elections of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament took place on Nov. 7.
