SARAJEVO, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Intesa Sanpaolo Bank BiH (Bosnia and Herzegovina) announced here on Wednesday that UnionPay cards will be accepted for cash withdrawal at its 106 automated teller machines (ATMs) in the Western Balkan country.
The launch of the service on Wednesday, following the bank's cooperation agreement with UnionPay International (UPI), aims to offer greater payment ease for Chinese UnionPay cardholders visiting or working in BiH.
According to Yang Shengliang, deputy general manager of UnionPay International Europe, Europe is now the second largest destination for Chinese tourists and UnionPay cards are currently accepted in 90 percent of European countries.
"We believe our partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo Bank BiH will further enhance our cardholders' payment experience in this country," he said at the ceremony.
Data from the BiH Agency for Statistics showed that a total of 95,208 Chinese tourists visited the country between January and October this year, making China its second tourist source market.
The agreement on mutual visa-free access has given a major boost to the number of Chinese tourists visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina.■
