A centuries-old ice-fishing carnival was staged on an ice-covered lake in northeastern Chinese province.
SONGYUAN, Dec. 29, 2019 (Xinhua) -- A winter fishing-themed tourist festival opened on Saturday on the ice-covered Chagan Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in China known for its centuries-old tradition of ice-fishing, in northeast China's Jilin Province. An opening ceremony and a sacrificial ceremony that prays for the blessings of Mother Nature and "awakens the sleeping fishing nets" were held on the first day of the festival.
