BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Beijing plans to add 13,333 hectares of forests and greenbelts in 2020 to improve the city's forest coverage rate to 44.4 percent, according to the city gardening and greening bureau.

A previous greening campaign from 2012 to 2015, which saw more than 54 million trees planted, brought the city's forest coverage rate to 41 percent from 37.6 percent.

In the ecological conservation area, Beijing will continue to build a healthy, stable, high-quality and efficient forest ecosystem, with 3,946.7 hectares of green space to be built in 2020.

Meanwhile, a total of 280 hectares of greenbelts in villages will be built, and 1,566.7 hectares of green area will be added in the sub-center of the city, and a number of urban forest and leisure parks will be built.

This year, the capital will focus on the construction of 41 urban leisure parks, 13 urban forest parks and 50 small parks and green areas.

In the Daxing International Airport, Winter Olympics competition areas, Wenyu River and other key areas, an additional green area of 6,153 hectares will be built, and 2,200 hectares of wetlands will be built or restored to create a beautiful landscape.

In recent years, Beijing has made efforts to create more green space in the city, aiming to provide more places for residents to spend their leisure time and create a better living environment.
