BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

ADDIS ABABA -- The total number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases in Africa has reached 1,460,084 as of Monday, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

The continental disease control and prevention agency said in a statement that the death toll due to illnesses related to COVID-19 in Africa has reached 35,445 as of Monday afternoon.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon's number of COVID-19 cases increased on Monday by 1,018 to 37,272 while the death toll went up by four to 351, the Health Ministry reported.

Earlier in the day, the ministerial committee in charge of the fight against COVID-19 decided to launch an electronic platform in cooperation with the health and interior ministries to publish all the decisions made according to the number and location of infections.

ANKARA -- Turkey's daily COVID-19 cases increased by 1,412 on Monday, raising the total number of diagnosed patients to 315,845, the Turkish Health Ministry announced.

Meanwhile, 65 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 8,062, according to the data shared by the ministry.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 2,239 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the tally to 233,265, the state's Ministry of Health said.

The death toll reached 1,507, with 41 new fatalities, while the number of patients in serious condition rose from 767 to 772, out of 1,527 patients currently hospitalized.

RAMALLAH -- The Palestinian health ministry on Monday reported 503 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths from the virus in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem.

In a press statement sent to Xinhua, Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila said eight death cases were in the West Bank districts and two in East Jerusalem.

TRIPOLI -- The National Center for Disease Control of Libya on Monday reported 849 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country so far to 33,213.

The center said in a statement that it received a total of 3,032 suspected samples, of which 849 tested positive, adding that 390 patients have recovered and seven died, increasing the total recoveries to 18,518 and the death toll to 527.
