ISLAMABAD, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has awarded Allama Iqbal Scholarship to 91 Sri Lankan students to study in Pakistani universities for Fall-2020/Spring-2021 sessions, the HEC said on Tuesday.
The scholarships have been granted under the Pak-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation program to promote an effective exchange of knowledge and better understanding of cultures and traditions between Sri Lankan and Pakistani students.
Out of 91 students, 27 have already reached various cities of the country to join their respective universities, the HEC said in a statement.
"As many as 525 Sri Lankan students had applied for Medical, Engineering, BS, MS, and PhD programs in response to HEC announcement for Fall 2020/Spring 2021 admissions," said the statement, adding that a total of 172 applicants were shortlisted for interview, out of which 91 students have been finally selected.
Allama Iqbal Scholarship aims at providing an opportunity for 1,000 Sri Lankan students to visit Pakistan and pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degree programs in engineering sciences, basic and natural sciences, and social sciences, according to the statement. Enditem
