BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BERLIN -- Germany on Thursday reported 16,774 new COVID-19 infections, the highest daily increase since the pandemic hit the country, according to Germany's disease control agency the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

The new cases have brought the country's total caseload to 481,013, the RKI said, adding that 89 patients have died from the virus during the same period, taking the country's death toll to 10,272.

MADRID -- The Spanish authorities have decided to close four more regions in the country to contain the rampant coronavirus amid worsening situation, local governments said Wednesday.

Movement in Andalusia, Castile-La-Mancha, Castile and Leon, and Murcia regions have been restricted due to the worsening epidemiological situation.

SYDNEY -- The Marshall Islands has confirmed the first COVID-19 case among some workers at a U.S. military base in the Pacific island country.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Marshall Islands authorities said two workers at a U.S. garrison on Kwajalein Atoll have tested positive for the virus, who arrived on Tuesday on a direct flight from Hawaii to the atoll.

BEIJING -- One new imported case of COVID-19 was reported in Beijing on Wednesday, the municipal health commission said Thursday.

A 25-year-old woman, who worked in Equatorial Guinea, tested negative for COVID-19 upon arrival at the Beijing Capital International Airport via Austria on Sunday.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally surpassed the 8-million mark on Thursday, reaching 8,040,203, according to the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

As many as 49,881 new COVID-19 cases were registered across the country over the past 24 hours.
