KABUL, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- More than 90 Afghans including civilians, security personnel and militants have been killed over the past 24 hours in Afghanistan as fighting intensified in the country, officials said Tuesday.
In the latest violent incident, the Taliban militants stormed security checkpoints in Khanabad district of the northern Kunduz province on Tuesday killing seven soldiers, the deputy to district chief Qudratullah Safi said.
According to Safi, three more soldiers have gone missing and obviously, the militants have captured them.
In retaliation the government fighting planes struck the Taliban hideout in Tipa Akhtar area of the said district on Tuesday afternoon, killing five insurgents and four civilians, the official said.
Similarly, a mine planted by militants on a road in Maton Tipa area of the eastern Khost provincial capital the Khost city at noon Tuesday struck a car, killing one security personnel and injuring four others, a local official Taj Wali confirmed.
In the meantime, clash in Kalangar area of Khost's neighboring Logar province claimed the lives of four local policemen and five Taliban fighters on Monday night, provincial government spokesman Didar Lawang said.
A total of 31 militants have been killed in Arghandab and Panjwai districts of the restive Kandahar province, the former stronghold of Taliban, over the past 24 hours, said an army statement released on Tuesday.
Defense Ministry in a statement released here also reported killing 37 militants and injuring 20 others in the southern Uruzgan province since Monday.
Taliban militants also conducted a car bomb against police base in the northern Faryab province early Tuesday, killing four police and injuring 15 others including 10 civilians, police said.
Meanwhile, Faryab governor Naqibullah Faeq has condemned the violent incidents and said that "Taliban outfit has stepped up terrorist activities to attract media attention in order to "make propaganda" in the war against government. Enditem
