Shen Wenxi (up) and archeological enthusiasts clear a surface near a tomb in Tang Dynasty (618-907) in Anyang, central China's Henan Province, April 8, 2021. Anyang is listed as one of the "top eight ancient capitals" in China and famous for oracle bone scripts discovery. In November 2020, the city launched an activity for archeological enthusiasts nationwide to experience real archeological process. From field archeological knowledge to on-site observation on soil layers, from unearthed pottery identification to cultural relics collection, enthusiasts are able to understand archeology from different angles. "I thought archeology was more thrilling and exciting, and all about exploration and treasure-hunting. Yet, it requires professionalism and patience," said Chen Chao, a freelancer from Shanghai. Shen Wenxi, a staff member of local archeological study and research institute, is responsible for trainings for enthusiasts. "The public might consider archeology mysterious, as they barely have an opportunity to know archeology in real life. This activity unveils itself to the public," he said. He is responsible for training for enthusiasts apart from daily archeological work at 18 different sites. According to local authority, the archeological experience activity will remain available to enthusiasts, and more activities are expected in near future to enable enthusiasts to understand and get fascinated to archeology.
