BEIRUT, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Protesters clashed with Lebanese soldiers in the capital Beirut on Thursday after Prime Minister-Designate Saad al-Hariri announced his resignation and abandoned his effort to form a new government.
It's worried that Hariri's dramatic resignation will plunge this crisis-torn country into further political turmoil. In quick reaction to Hariri's decision, the Lebanese pound on Thursday nosedived to a record low of about 21,150 pounds to the U.S. dollar on the black market.
