NAIROBI, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Kenya on Friday launched a mobile app that seeks to boost the delivery of health services in the country.
Millicent Alooh, secretary general of Association of Medical Engineering of Kenya told journalists in Kenya's capital Nairobi that the Africare mobile app that was developed by Shenzhen All Trusted Medical Company provides a realtime link between health facilities and qualified engineers trained to provide maintenance service.
"The mobile app will revolutionize Kenya's health sector by reducing the downtime for broken machines in hospitals," Alooh said.
Alooh said that access to health services remains constrained due to frequent breakdown of critical equipment required to treat patients.
She observed that the digital platform also provides an avenue for bio-medical engineers who are registered on the mobile app, to earn income through the maintenance of medical equipment throughout the country.
Hazel Ip, managing director of Shenzhen All Trusted Medical Company said that the mobile app will also provide a platform for linking up international medical equipment manufacturers with local engineers in a partnership to provide quality aftersale service for health equipment in Kenya.
She said that her company has also rolled out a training program for local biomedical engineers to enhance their skills in the maintenance of machines used in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases. ■
