The 10th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition (Zhuhai Airshow) opened on Nov. 11, 2014. This year’s show included a larger range of armaments, including more ground equipment. Some new China-made weapons impressed the visitors.
Advanced Weapons
Anti-radiation Ballistic Missile: Ballistic missiles, with their long range and strong penetration, are considered an important part of a country’s defense. This year’s show featured the B-611MR system made by China Aerospace Science & Industry Corporation. Unlike traditional ballistic missiles, the B-611MR has a passive radar system to intercept electromagnetic signals and guide the missile to its target, which is a standard configuration of anti-radiation missiles. This makes the B-611MR the world’s first anti-radiation ballistic missile.
Cruise Missile: The “Defender-43” cruise missile, made by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, is launched by a heavy-caliber rocket system with a range of 10 to 60 kilometers. It can cruise for more than 30 minutes above the target and strike time-critical, maneuvering and rear-slope targets. This warhead has a two-way data chain that transmits pictures to help locate the target, assess the strike and guide other firepower.
