Plans for a fourth dinosaur adventure have been in the works since the last instalment was released in 2001.
Disputes over the storyline mean it's never got past development stage.
But Spielberg has put a new writing team in place, led by Trevorrow, who wrote and directed 2012 time travelling film Safety Not Guaranteed.
Spielberg will resume his role as executive producer.
No announcement has been made about the film's cast, but Sam Neill - who has appeared in all three Jurassic Park films - recently hinted Jurassic World will have an entirely new cast.
He said: “I’m told it’s a big reboot, a total re-jig.”
Jurassic Park - starring Neill, Sir Richard Attenborough, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern - earned more than £600million after its release in 1993, making it the 13th highest grossing film of all time.
