JERUSALEM, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- A pedestrian bridge collapsed over a major highway in Israel on Monday night after being hit by a truck, leaving two people trapped, the police and emergency service said.
The accident occurred in Road 4 in Beni Brak, a suburb of Tel Aviv.
A police statement said the bridge collapsed after it was hit by a truck that tried to pass below it. A crane attached to the roof of the truck bumped into the bridge and apparently caused the collapsed.
A spokesperson for the rescue service said that the driver and another person were trapped inside the vehicle. The driver and a passenger in the track were in a critical condition, said the spokesperson.
The highway was closed and police have asked drivers to stay away from the area.
