India, Pakistan LoC skirmishes kill trooper

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- An Indian army trooper was killed Wednesday during skirmishes between troops of India and Pakistan on Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, police said.

The trooper was killed along LoC in Keran sector of frontier Kupwara district, about 130 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Pakistani troops opened fire at an army patrol along LoC in Keran sector killing a trooper," a police spokesman said.

Reports said Indian troops also retaliated to the firing and exchange lasted for some time.

So far there were no reports of damage on the Pakistani side due to Indian firing.

According to Indian officials, over 300 incidents of cease-fire violations were recorded along the LoC this year.
