WUHAN, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Urban management authorities in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, have seized over 3,000 shared bikes after complaints about haphazard parking.
The bikes were seized after the enforcement of a shared bike management regulation and were moved to a parking lot. The bike sharing companies will face penalties, said Hu Hanjin, with the city's urban management commission.
The city of over 10 million inhabitants has almost 700,000 shared bikes and haphazard parking has caused traffic issues.
It has also increased the workload of urban management workers and cleaners, Hu said.
Jianghan District enacted a regulation on the management of shared bikes on Sept. 22, requiring bikes be parked in specified zones on 18 urban roads.
The regulation requires shared bike companies to allocate five staff members per 1,000 bikes to move bikes into the required parking areas.
Individual violators will be fined 20 yuan (3 U.S. dollars), according to the regulation.
