LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- A brother of the gunman responsible for the Oct. 1 Las Vegas mass shooting Friday pleaded not guilty to child porn charges in his first appearance in court here.
Bruce Paddock, 58, was detained Wednesday due to suspected connection with child pornography. A felony complaint said he could face 19 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of possession of child pornography as he had more than 600 explicit images of minors in 2014 and also swapped pornography.
Paddock was brought into court in a wheelchair, with his shoulders hunched and his hands cuffed and clasped in front of him. The decision on bail will be made at a hearing next week. Until then, Paddock will stay behind bars in lieu of a 60,000-U.S.-dollar bail, Los Angeles Times reported.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the investigation against Paddock was not connected with the Oct. 1 Las Vegas shooting. It had begun before the incident.
A total of 58 people were killed and hundreds more were injured by Paddock's 64-year-old brother, Stephen Paddock, in Las Vegas shooting, which is the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
Bruce is one of Stephen Paddock's three brothers. He had been homeless and not in close touch with his family. After the bloody massacre, Bruce took some media interviews, saying he had not been in touch with Stephen for 10 years.
