TOKYO, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged lower Monday morning as investors opted to secure recent gains with overall losses being capped by hopes for solid earnings from Japan Inc. for the fiscal first-half that ended last month.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 18.11 points, or 0.08 percent, from Friday to 21,990.34.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange edged 3.54 points, or 0.20 percent, lower to 1,767.51.
Iron and steel, insurance, and precision instrument issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
