LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Disney and Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok" continued to dominate the North American box office with an estimated 56.6 million U.S. dollars in its second weekend.
Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, the super hero film that based on the Marvel Comics character Thor is the sequel to 2011's "Thor" and 2013's "Thor: The Dark World."
"Thor: Ragnarok" holds a hammer-like grip on the box office in its second weekend while enjoying ongoing great reviews, audience enthusiasm and a whopping 211.6 million U.S. dollars after just 10 days in North American theaters, wrote movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian at comScore in an email to Xinhua.
Combined with an estimated international cume of 438.5 million U.S. dollars, "Thor: Ragnarok's" estimated global cume stands at 650.1 million U.S. dollars to date, according to the studio figures collected by comScore.
Paramount's "Daddy's Home 2" opened with an estimated 30 million U.S. dollars in the second place. Directed by Sean Anders, the Christmas comedy film stars Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Linda Cardellini, John Cena, John Lithgow, and Mel Gibson. Following the events of the first film, the sequel follows Brad and Dusty (Ferrell and Wahlberg), now co-parenting Dusty's kids, who have to deal with their own fathers (Lithgow and Gibson) visiting for the holidays.
Another newcomer, Fox's "Murder On The Orient Express" opened in the third place with an estimated 28.2 million U.S. dollars. Based on the 1934 novel of the same name by Agatha Christie, the mystery drama film is directed by and also stars Kenneth Branagh. The classic suspenseful mystery novel has been adapted for the screen many times, most notably by Sidney Lumet in 1974.
STX's comedy film "A Bad Moms Christmas" landed in the fourth place with an estimated 11.51 million U.S. dollars in its second weekend, pushing it's total to 39.87 million U.S. dollars to date in North American theaters.
Lionsgate's horror film "Jigsaw" finished fifth with an estimated 3.42 million U.S. dollars in its third weekend. It's the eighth film in the "Saw" franchise.
